When we talk of Middlesex where do we mean?

The County, the Province or the Tribal Lands?

It's possible you didn't even realise there is a choice!

We do know that anyone who says Middlesex
‘doesn’t exist’ is talking out their hat.

The assumption that because the County Council was abolished Middlesex is abolished is fanciful - did Middlesex not exist before 1889? For that is the very recent date the Middlesex County Council was formed.

And as you will read and learn,
nothing could be further from the truth.

Our first home game on the newly laid pitch kicked off

with the Lord of Ashford in Middlesex Charity Bowl against Southall FC.

It was great to be back at the RPS after a preseason on the road so far, and the new pitch looked glorious in the August sunshine.

The game started off well with both teams starting brightly, Ashford probably just shading the more attacking play in the opening 15 minutes. However, Southall pushed forward more taking the game to Ashford and were rewarded with a goal in the 18th minute by Aaron McLeish to take the lead.

Both teams kept looking to get forward, and Ashford got a deserved equaliser on 25 minutes after a fantastic turn and quick shot just inside the box by Kelvin Adjei. The rest of the half saw both teams continuing to get forward with honours staying even at the break.

After the restart Southall pushed on quickly and retook the lead in the 50th minute with a second goal from Aaron McLeish. The second half was then mostly even with some entertaining play and both sides always looking to get forward when they could. Unfortunately, it just didn’t break for Ashford in terms of grabbing another equaliser and Southall took the win, and the Bowl for this year.

Jeff Barnes, Chair of the Middlesex Fedration of Sport, presented the winners with the bowl on behalf of our patron Russell Grant (Lord of Ashford in Middlesex).
